# Intro
I’ve had the pleasure of trying out many browsers.
# Reviewed
- Brave
- current fav, simply because it’s Chrome without Google
- relatively long-lived, less chance it will change significantly or disappear overnight
- gripes:
- cannot disable brave icon/logo in address bar

- Arc
- runner up, will consider switching as default
- main selling point (to me) is command palette
- they also have some other features which I do not use
- Sidekick
- meh? their thing is sort of “browser as OS” since many tools we use our web apps
- personal preference is still for an electron app, so their core feature is not a selling point imo
- a pro-electron stance may be controversial on HN, but individual apps as “contexts” is how i situate apps in my mind
- works with karabiner hyper mode
- Vivaldi
- seems great, maybe even better than brave, but… slow
- has a notes feature! why don’t more browsers support this
- it’s a bit lackluster. no formatting, no linkage
- why so slow?
- love that they support unlimited history and lots of customizatoin
- gripes:
- slow
- Orion
- chrome AND firefox extensions supported. amazing. have not yet had issues with my extensions
- gripes:
- safari-based, so mac-only and inferior (IMO) devtools
- SigmaOS
- Interesting take on how to use the web. They've thought through an alternate browsing workflow (which is mandatory 😒 see griped below)
- Keyboard centric
- gripes:
- dictatorial about workflow. sentiment seems to be “if you _just try_ our way you’ll love it! also it’s mandatory”
- keyboard-centric UX _without_ keyboard customization
# Others
- Opera
- Edge
- they have a mac version
- haven’t used. figured if it’s just chromium then what’s the selling point?
# The incumbents
- Chrome
- wins by default because devtools
- Firefox
- promising… i’ve never been able to really like it for some reason. maybe it’s not snappy enough, maybe the UI feels slightly less good, not sure
- Safari
- gripes:
- various css / js doesn’t work. odd edge cases
- must use Safari to change the default browser away from safari
