I'm using Descript as my primary video editor for my Youtube videos. It has a great feature set and makes lot of what I want to do easier.
However... it's just janky. The app itself is slow, and this on while running on the most powerful laptop Apple currently creates.
As I write this Descript is in full freeze—completely unresponsive. The UI doesn't resize anymore. Nothing works. This happened _while recording_. Will my recording be OK once I force quit and restart?
... after restarting the app ...
Hey! It's still there. Good for you Descript.
Still, why did it freeze? Why does the play button have a loading indicator built in? The files are all on disk, there should be no need to load[^1].
It's a testament to how useful transcript editing is that I still use Descript. I'm sure Final Cut Pro would run very well... but of course I'd have to edit video using the audio waveform and actually pressing play a lot. Not my cup of tea.
So for now I'll continue with Descript, but if Capcut's Mac version ever supports transcript based editing[^2] then I'll likely be a quick convert.
[^1]: Descript does put your files in the cloud. However, my understanding is that's just a backup. The files are still operated on locally.
[^2]: Their website claims they support this feature, but it appears to be only for the web and Windows versions of their app. Interestingly, the all-Chinese version for Mac _does_ support transcript based editing. I'd be happy to use this version, as I read Chinese, but there's no way to pay for the software! China is on totally separate payment rails than the rest of the world, and without being part of that system I cannot pay. Quite frustrating.
